David Chan is an experienced Director of Photography based in Melbourne, Australia. With over a decade of experience in the film industry, he has established himself as a talented and versatile cinematographer.
Originally from Taiwan, David's passion for visual storytelling began at a young age, and he has spent the past decade honing his craft and developing his unique approach to cinematography. Early in his career David got his start working in the New Zealand camera and lighting department and has been lucky enough to work on some big film sets including International figures such as Donnie Yen, Michelle Yeoh, Yuen Woo-Ping, Yoson An, Roseanne Liang and Mark Pallegrino. As a DP David has worked on a wide range of projects, from independent short films to large-scale commercial productions. David recently worked with Anima on their Australian leg of documentary Dwarf Story.
David’s work has been recognized by industry peers, and he has been awarded several cinematography awards at film festivals around the world including the prestigious ACS Cinematography Award for his work on the Australian Idol Star Anthony Callea.
David works closely with the Australian Cinematographer Society in promoting a progressive and inclusive community. David’s recent collaborations include DZOFilm, the popular Optics company and the leading LED brand Nanlite.
Working closely with directors and other creatives to bring their vision to life on screen, David approaches each project with a deep understanding of the importance of visual storytelling and works tirelessly to ensure that every shot is carefully crafted and perfectly executed.
