Cécile Embleton is an award-winning self-shooting documentary producer/director based in London. Her first feature-length documentary, Mother Vera, received strong reviews after its world premiere in main competition at Visions du Réel in April 2024. The film is supported by The Sundance Institute, and was awarded first prize at Locarno First Look 2023 and the first look prize at the Hot Docs Forum 2021. Her debut short The Watchmaker premiered at Dok Leipzig 2016, SXSW and Hot Docs, won the Grand Jury prize at Boston International Film Festival and was nominated for UK Best Short at Open City Documentary Festival. Cécile brings an intimate, warm approach to working with collaborators and creates documentaries with a visually aesthetic and bold form. She speaks fluent English, French, Spanish and Italian and is confident working in new and unfamiliar places and sensitive environments. Her work has taken her to Europe, Africa, Asia and Latin America. She has worked on broadcast projects including films for the BBC, Channel 4, DW and YLE in a number of production roles.
