Athina is a London-based editor who spent the last decade knee-deep into documentary post-production.
Initially focused on short-form editing, mainly crafting documentaries for online platforms, and weaving stories with the aim to narrow our blind spot to subjects such as mental health, sexuality and alternative ways of living. The urge to delve into more complex narratives eventually led to a transition into feature docs. In 2022 she was selected for the Grierson Editing DocLab and subsequently got her first Netflix credit as 1st Assistant Editor for the documentary “What Jennifer Did”. Following that, her work with two more Netflix productions (“Beckham”, “Ashley Madison: Sex, Lies & Scandal”) equipped her with the expertise and confidence to tackle feature projects as an editor.
Her intention in pursuing documentary editing is to facilitate fertile communication and to face the challenge of reaching not only those already interested in a subject but, more importantly, to engage those who are not. Valuing the ability of documentaries to foster empathy and understanding, reminds us that sometimes, others help us understand ourselves better.
